262 Accident-Free Days – Right Mindset is the Foundation for Work Safety

"Our entire team has the right mindset towards occupational safety. We take practical measures to ensure attitudes towards work safety are instilled from the very beginning during the orientation process of new employees. During orientation, we stress that work safety holds the same importance as product and service quality”, says JTK Power’s Production Manager Jussi Minni.

Openness Supports Safe Working

To foster and sustain a positive safety culture, the entire team must align towards shared goals. Work safety is defined in the company’s strategy, which serves as the foundation for supervisors to guide the planning, implementation, and maintenance of safety measures. Safety concerns are promptly addressed, and investments that enhance workplace safety are encouraged. In daily operations, maintaining clean and organized workspaces, along with strictly adhering to safety protocols, are fundamental to our safety practices. Additionally, JTK Power ensures that tools and equipment are regularly serviced and inspected.

"If any issues arise in everyday work, supervisors are required to address them. We actively encourage our staff to report any safety concerns without hesitation. To support this, we have recently introduced a trial for monthly safety observation meetings, each involving a different group. These meetings are designed to gather valuable insights that can help us improve safety and potentially lead to changes or enhancements in our practices. Our goal is to foster transparency in our operations, ensuring that everyone feels confident in sharing their thoughts and observations regarding workplace safety.”

Additional Days Off and an Increased Epassi Balance

At JTK Power, the level of occupational safety has improved year by year, and as of today, the company has reached 262 accident-free days. The accident-free day counter is displayed on information screens at the factory. The progress of the counter is closely monitored, especially since staff members are regularly rewarded for maintaining accident-free days.

“We want to reward our staff for following safety instructions and maintaining occupational safety. When we reach 250 accident-free days, each staff member receives an extra paid day off. In addition, we also reward everyone along the way: for every 50 accident-free days, we treat the team with something sweet, such as cakes or donuts, to enjoy on their coffee break. We also offer extra balance for their Epassi employee benefit account.”

Maintaining Work Safety Is an Ongoing Effort

With work safety matters, there are no days off. The work continues even when everything is running smooth. Systematic actions conducted on the shop floor extend to strategic measures, such as quarterly occupational safety meetings, attended by the CEO, Production Manager, HR representative, and occupational safety representatives. JTK Powers maintains an ongoing dialogue with their occupational health care provider while also regularly assessing the safety situation with audits.

"Naturally, our main goal is that every employee can work in a safe environment and return home safely at the end of the day."
