JTK Power Visits the Rauma Marine Constructions Shipyard
In late October, a group of JTK Power’s office and management staff visited the Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) shipyard in the city of Rauma, one of Finland’s shipbuilding capitals.
A Deeper Understanding of the Demands of Shipbuilding
The visitors, guided by an RMC representative, learned about the fundamentals of shipbuilding, the related processes, and various work stages. The group received a comprehensive overview of how projects are managed to ensure efficiency, adherence to schedules, and clarity among all parties regarding their responsibilities during the different phases of the project. The vast scale of RMC’s projects and the work conducted on shipyards left the visitors astonished: a single vessel consists of about 1.5 million components, with the total length of cables used being as much as 400 kilometers. During JTK Power’s visit, the shipyard had three vessels under construction, with about 1500 people working in the area daily. Following the introduction, the visitors had the opportunity to tour one of the vessels under construction.
“The shipyard visit sparked great interest and conversation. Our staff experienced first-hand the final application of our products. It was great to witness the efficiency of Finnish shipbuilding. Seeing the exceptional quality achieved even under challenging conditions deepened our admiration for the professionals working at shipyards”, says JTK Power CEO Robert Ollus.
Annual Visits Offer a Blend of Theoretical Knowledge and Practical Experience
Ollus extends gratitude to RMC for the opportunity to visit, emphasizing the lasting benefits it brings to product development, collaboration, and customer service. JTK Power organizes annual visits to various customer sites to enhance employees’ understanding of customers’ industries and to offer a perspective on diverse operational practices. Previous visits have included the shipping company Wasaline and the global steel producer SSAB.
“We are happy to be able to regularly arrange these visits. The trips are popular: this year, our group consisted of almost the entire office and management staff. The feedback has been positive in every respect. Our group was extremely interested and excited with what they saw.”
Travel Time Utilized for Training
The 3.5-hour bus ride to Rauma, arranged through Härmän Liikenne, ensured a comfortable and convenient journey. During the trip, JTK Power’s Jouni Hartikainen utilized the travel time effectively, delivering IT training focused on information security. The session emphasized practical steps that everyone can take to enhance information security in their daily work.
“We have established standardized practices for information security, supported by regular follow-ups to ensure the topic remains top of mind for everyone. The bus ride provided an excellent opportunity to revisit the subject”, Hartikainen concludes.
