JTK Power recently completed a six-month wellbeing coaching programme developed by Kuortane Olympic Training Center. The programme was led by coaches Tero Viinamäki and Niko Mäkinen. It began at the start of the year, and the results were reviewed in June.

The participants were divided into two groups based on their individual needs. One group consisted of employees experiencing issues such as back pain or other muscle and joint problems. The coaching focused on mobility, physical wellbeing and preventing further problems.

The second group focused on recovery, stress management and everyday wellbeing. It was intended for employees showing signs of strain or stress, based, for example, on discussions with occupational healthcare professionals or during employee development discussions.

The programme included initial assessments and measurements, personal feedback, an individual wellbeing plan, follow-up sessions and a final review. Participants also had access to a remote coaching app and could contact their personal coach directly.

Positive Changes in Sleep, Energy and Physical Wellbeing

Over the six months, participants reported a range of positive changes. Many felt more energetic, noticed improvements in both their physical and mental wellbeing, and experienced less stress.

The coaching also led to practical changes in everyday habits. As one participant put it: “I eat breakfast nowadays – I used to skip it all the time!”

Others reported sleeping better and following a more regular daily routine. They spent less time on their phones before bed, ate at more regular times and added more vegetables to their meals. Some also noticed that their cravings for sweets had decreased or disappeared altogether. One participant said they had never realised how much an evening snack could improve both the length and quality of their sleep.

The programme also encouraged participants to become more active and try new forms of exercise. One took up cycling, while another stopped using nicotine pouches.

For many, the most valuable outcome was gaining practical tools for looking after their own wellbeing – and seeing that meaningful results can come from relatively small changes in everyday life.

Small Everyday Changes Can Make a Lasting Difference

Coach Viinamäki comments on the results:

“During the coaching programme, we saw a clear improvement in the group’s wellbeing. The changes could be seen in better everyday choices, increased energy, and improved recovery. Participants reported an average increase of 37 minutes per day in the time they felt energetic. The recovery score increased by 13 percentage points, and the score for recovery quality improved by 24 percentage points. Participants’ habits related to daily activity, exercise and nutrition also improved by a total of 20 percentage points. The results show that addressing exercise, nutrition and recovery together creates a strong foundation for lasting lifestyle changes.”

“Our Employees Are Our Greatest Asset”

At JTK Power, employee wellbeing is considered an important part of everyday working life and the company’s operations. Supporting employees in managing their workload and recovering properly is therefore something the company is prepared to invest in.

Robert Ollus, CEO of JTK Power, explains the thinking behind the programme:

“The main reason for the coaching was to support employees in managing the demands of work and to give them practical tools that could also improve their everyday lives outside work. It was not just about exercise or a single training programme, but about wellbeing more broadly: rest, nutrition, recovery, stress management and recognising your own habits. When people feel better both physically and mentally, it shows in their work and in how people feel and interact in everyday working life.”
